Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up from the airport and driven to your hotel or riad in Fez. Enjoy a guided tour of the city, exploring Fez’s rich history and its role as Morocco’s cultural and religious center, established by Idris I. Highlights include the largest medina in the Arab world, Karaouine University, ancient mosques, Andalusian neighborhoods, artisan workshops, and museums. Overnight stay at a traditional riad in Fez, the handicraft capital of Morocco.
Depart from Fez, passing through Ifrane, known as “Morocco’s Switzerland,” and then continue to Azrou for a stop in the famed cedar forest where you can observe Barbary apes. Travel through the Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch in Midelt before heading towards Errachidia. Pass through the impressive Ziz Valley with its lush date palms. Continue to Merzouga, where you’ll have dinner and stay overnight at a desert hotel or riad.
Today you’ll explore the Erg Chebbi dunes and surrounding areas. Visit nearby villages like the Khamlia village, known for its Gnawa music. Meet local nomads and learn about their way of life. In the late afternoon, take a camel trek into the Sahara, where you’ll watch the sunset over the dunes. End your day with dinner under the stars in a Berber tent at a desert camp.
After breakfast, visit the Rissani Market, a historic trading post of the ancient caravan routes in Sijilmassa. Continue your journey through the Todra Gorge, known for its impressive canyons, and through the Dades Valley, filled with lush landscapes and traditional Berber villages. In the afternoon, arrive at Ouarzazate, a major film center, and visit the famous Taurirt Kasbah. Dinner and overnight stay at a local hotel in Ouarzazate.
After breakfast, visit the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the ancient architecture and the history of this site, famous for its appearance in movies like Gladiator. Continue through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), with breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains, to arrive in Marrakech. Overnight stay at a riad in Marrakech.
